Kanna Shoes

We transmit to the world a philosophy and lifestyle, through a traditional Mediterranean footwear design that is able to adapt to the latest fashion trends.

Craftsmanship that endures,

innovation that moves forward

For 30 years, Kanna has manufactured all its collections in the brand's birthplace, La Encarnación, located in the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia). This area is considered the cradle of espadrille making and the use and production of jute.

The entire production process is carried out entirely in Spain, working with the best workshops in the country and with local artisans, who use a centuries-old technique called buttonhole stitch, a hand-sewing technique by which the leather is joined to the jute floor.

At Kanna, we are committed to local development and tradition. We are passionate about the satisfaction of a job well done and proud of our values. We are dedicated to our customers and constantly strive for excellence in the products we bring to market.

We are a team of over 70 people dedicated to the quality of our designs, the production process, and excellence in our finishing. A united team that works with passion to develop unique products that provide maximum comfort and satisfaction after purchase.

Every day we strive for innovation in manufacturing, with the sole aim of protecting and preserving the environment and always keeping in mind the importance of our heritage.

At Kanna, we continue to do much of our work by hand, combining it with the latest technology. With the experience and skill of our artisans, we achieve a high level of quality in every piece, material, and finish, making each one unique.

Jute as essence

of our brand

The foundation of our brand and the manufacture of our products is jute, a natural fiber that draws from a centuries-old tradition and originates in the northwest area of the Murcia region, the birthplace and main location of our brand.

The soles of our espadrilles, wedges and sneakers are manufactured in a traditional and artisanal way, using premium quality jute in the soles and feet.

Using jute fiber, we make spools of yarn, which we sometimes dye to create colorful soles. The jute is then braided using specialized machines. Next, the braid is shaped by hand on a rotating table to form the sole. This sole is then stitched crosswise to give it strength, and finally, a layer of natural rubber is added to the base using vulcanization. This process is also carried out locally, preserving the local essence of our brand and guaranteeing the highest quality.

Caravaca de la Cruz is the home and benchmark for jute production in Spain, where this material has been worked entirely by hand for generations. Known as the "golden fiber," jute is a 100% natural, biodegradable, and recyclable material. Its production methods are completely environmentally friendly.

  • Experience and quality

    Experience and quality

Kanna was founded in 1985 by brothers Juan and Tomás De La Cerda. Our DNA and the foundation of Kanna is the handcrafted production of jute footwear made with the regional technique of the "punto ojal" (eyelet stitch), joining the sole to the upper through 100% hand-stitching.

Kanna is currently one of the leading footwear brands in Spain. Design, quality, comfort, and originality define our collections, offering a wide range of products for both summer and winter.

  • Mediterranean Style

    Mediterranean Style

Wearing Kanna shoes is about embracing a Mediterranean lifestyle through footwear designs that are both traditional and cutting-edge, adapting to the latest fashion trends without sacrificing comfort and the natural feel of its materials.

Kanna draws its inspiration from the sea and its salt; the sun and its light; and the people and their culture. Through our meticulous and carefully crafted design, we aim to convey our values, reflecting our heritage and passion for excellence in every detail.

Handmade with buttonhole stitch

The current espadrille-making process retains many similarities to that of centuries past. The hand-stitching technique known as buttonhole stitch is the most distinctive and easily identifiable feature in our summer collections. This buttonhole stitch, crafted by artisans in the northwest region of Murcia, primarily involves joining the various pieces of natural leather to the jute sole. Every single one of our products that features this stitching has been handmade by our artisans.

Natural Skin

Recognizing the value of our raw materials, we work with the best suppliers, who treat the hides with the utmost respect for the environment, not only through the mechanisms used in the tanning and manufacturing process, but also in the dyes and products used for the treatments applied. Only in this way can we guarantee the quality of our leather and our commitment to the environment.

Kanna is a brand with a clear commitment to environmental respect, which is why we only use natural materials in our collections.

Jute fiber, cotton canvas, linen, silk, and raffia (among others) are some of the most commonly used materials in our products. And of course, we also use the highest quality leathers in our designs.

Each season, we select fashionable materials, always keeping market trends in mind. Once they have been cut and stitched (the process of sewing the different leather pieces together), we infuse Kanna's personality into our products.
